Our forefathers declared independence from tyranny of the British Crown in Congress, July 4, 1776 based on the Laws of Nature or Natural Law
and Nature’s God of entitlement's. Could there be an everyday ordinary common God as real as nature or natural law that is the miracle of life that
makes life worth living? The first paragraph of the thirteen colonies Declaration of Independence from the Crown King of England is justified by
Natural Law as follows:
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with
another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle
them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation we hold these
truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these
are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Is it true that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights? In a pragmatic sense, it is not a valid or
sound proposition to say that all men are created equal if some are short, tall, weak, strong, or born healthy while some are domed to disease or
other deficiencies. In accordance to natural law we can say that all men are created equal by an innate universal that ties all living things together
as one. Mystics hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable
Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
I have no evidence that the authors of the declaration of independence where speaking of equality as a natural universal but I can account from
archaeological evidence that Native Americans did associate nature as a equal balanced whole or one thing tied to the other as equal and
inseparable even after death. They were consider heathen savages by most Christian settlers, who were considered the worst of all evil by Native
Americans for their disrespect to Natural Law.
Irish Christian settlers had good relation with the Native Indians and were welcomed farmers beyond the safety of colonial fortress who by
peaceful diplomacy or obedience to Natural law, supplied the European settlers with fresh produce and the main force of westward expansion deep
into the new world of North America.
There is no doubt that from the time Columbus discovered the new world to the failed colony of James Town and the successful establishment of
the thirteen English colonies; naturalized settlers were influenced by Native Americans from 1492-1776; some three hundred years of acclamation
with Native American beliefs.
The Journal of John Fox is fascinating read that documents his journey to the New World from England accompanied by William Penn who without
intention transformed Fox’s mystical experiences into the Quaker religion after the death of John Fox. Up until his death John fox had no followers,
he just had friends and that is how he address the so-called murdering Indian savages who he stay with was protected by and unharmed traveling
from the Carolinas to New Hampshire. He preferred to be hosted by invitation from one tribal camp to the next instead of the fortresses of colonial
villages and towns on his journey.
One tribal chief asked Fox “Why was he was immune to the white mans disease [Insanity]” Fox did not have an answer for the behavior of the
colonist but what the Indians could not understand is the colonist separated themselves from the whole while Fox, Native American’s, where an
equal inseparable piece of the whole of nature. This view of the world is sometimes called a transpersonal view or Transpersonalism not in a
religious sense but as a matter of physics or the natural order of things.
Three of the most common illustrative metaphors of Transpersonalism are “The Tea Cup,” “The candle,” and “The Children.” These ancient
parables have been commonly expressed by word of mouth for thousands of years. Hundreds of colorful relative versions display the multifaceted
approaches used to share the transpersonal experience.
The “Tea Cup” parable is widely used in eastern religions primarily of Asian philosophies including Buddhist and Hindu tradition. The basic theme
of the story is based on the earthly transformations of the common element water. Objectively, water can be seen in three states, stone (ice), liquid
and gas (vapor). To verbally describe the upper planes beyond binary thought is near impossible; however, such states of consciousness can be
approached by art, music, poetry, or metaphysical parable.
One poetic version uses a cup of tea to get the point across: The “Tea Cup” setting usually involves a spiritual discussion between two spiritual
pilgrims enjoying a cup of tea. Transpersonal discussion as such is usually a back room affair because of the negative reaction from those
entrenched in the material state of consciousness termed ‘linearism’ similar to the term ‘Materialism’; however, linearism is more than a view.
Linearism is a strong linguistic determinant that destroys correspondence necessary for objective assessment by intelligent human beings.
The explanation of such reaction is of little importance which leads to multiple cause and effect theorems extended into infinity. The fact that these
reactions do occur, demonstrates a relative clash between the transpersonal limitless reality and the materialistic misery of resentment stalemated
in a world of facts that are not facts but temporal conditional laws of the universe. Objects are conditioned by the physics of awareness, the higher
law in which all lower laws must obey!
The “Tea Cup” discussion is an intimate conversation reserved for true seekers of truth. The theme usually assumes a seeker and a spiritual
teacher relationship. The seeker bombards the teacher with all kinds of questions concerning the higher states of consciousness. He or she
intuitively knows the teacher has attained a level of success in the higher domain and craves such a reality.
The teacher tiring from an inexhaustible onslaught of questions shatters his cup of tea against a table or any stationary object which may include
the questioning aspirant. The seeker immediately stops asking questions due this display and the teacher seizes the opportunity, explaining that
the body is like this tea cup; a temporary encasement of the soul represented by the liquid tea.
He goes on to explain that by the next day, the water will transform into vapor, rejoining its original source such is this the journey of our souls in
the material world of experience. Sometimes this demonstration leads to a positive understanding. Usually it just leads to more questions.
Positive understanding demonstrates that the aspirant is actually dipping into the higher planes and no longer in need of questions- he/she is
dwelling in the domain of knowing, an area where thinking is proof in itself the thinker does not know. Questioning draws attention to the aspirant
as if he does not understand the universal concept. In other words, the teacher knows when the aspirant has descended back into a linear or
materialistic reality of binary relationships.
The tea cup scenario is wanting in its illustration because it seldom produces the intended result, and therefore, is a waste of tea cups. The
aspirant sometimes becomes depressed as previously illustrated by the parable “Bi-Social Intercourse” as merchant in the tavern on the night of
the moon festival, pondering the idea that life is meaningless because in the end all of his work and experiences are in vain. The truth is the
seeker is giving up nothing and gaining more- anything outside of yourself, including yourself!
“The Candle” scenario illustrates the same question in a different way. The teacher creates a mock up mental picture associated with the
instinctive reaction of moths to any source of light. The guidance system of a moth is reactive to starlight, an apparent evolutionary survival
mechanism incorporated for night vision, limiting daylight activity; reducing the chance of becoming a meal for birds.
Unlike the “Tea Cup” scenario, the aspirant does not talk while viewing the mock up in his own mind illustrated by the teacher. The seeker attention
is shifted from the objective world into the inner world of discovery.
The teacher usually begins by responding to an inquiry about the higher planes of consciousness from the seeker. Again, this is usually a back
room affair or just a private conversation that draws little attention from others. The teacher explains that entering into the higher planes is like a
moth that circles a lighted candle.
Repeatedly and instinctively, the moth circles the candle getting closer to the flame after each orbit. He may add, such as our pilgrimages
homeward. First we have an intuitive feeling that something more exists outside of our everyday experience; we recognize the candle light. As the
material world of conflicts wear on our souls, we shift our attention more and more to heaven, circling the candle just as the moth. Our desires are
intensified each time we orbit the candle light; we move closer and closer to the source.
Eventually the moth is so obsessed with the light that the moth’s wings becomes scorched; yet, it continues its suicidal mission until it is completely
consumed in the flame. The seeker associates this simile with his own homeward journey and for a while the teacher is granted a reprieve from
endless questioning.
Although, the “Tea Cup” idea of returning to the source is not in vain, the false belief of giving up ones identity for something more is skirted with
the “Candle” story, the seeker sometimes has the false realization that in order to reach the higher planes, all materialistic bonds must be
destroyed, even his own body.
On occasion the seeker will understand this parable to simply mean, in order to enter the higher planes, all undue attachments with the material
world must be given up for the higher awareness while still living our normal lives. The giving-up is really a letting-go for example a house or a
property deed to a piece of real estate. Only the most naive would understand that this may mean to give away his home to someone and live on
the streets content of letting go of some substantial material possession.
The letting go of material attachments means exactly that, life has its hardships and even though a house and property you claim your own seems
to be permanent they are open to great liabilities, such as fire, floods, and economic downfall, to name a few. The letting go is the understanding
that material wealth is temporary and you should enjoy them but reframe from undue attachment if all is lost.
There is sometimes a negative effect that is unknowingly impressed on the subconscious of the pilgrim with the candle metaphor which by-the-way
the candle is not natural it is man-made. Some extremist religious sects promote the contemplation of dying for God, even to the extent of
strapping a bomb to themselves in order to destroy their enemies which they assume is a guaranteed ticket to heaven. Self destruction is a
negative unnatural act with adverse reaction to a positive pursuit of cosmic consciousness. The truth is, suicidal pursuits only beget death and
destruction. What guarantee does one have in an afterlife if he does not learn to live in eternity here and now?
The best illustrative metaphor for the transpersonal experience is “The Children” example. Somehow, this story can be talked about in any social
structure without conflict, probably because there is no power greater than a mother’s love for her children. Contemporary women of today still
suffer social oppression more than any other subgroup in today’s society. Positioned at the bottom of the social scale of recognition, she must
compete in life for the basic necessities to survive: compounded with the great responsibility of giving birth and caring for children.
The Transpersonal shift of consciousness is best demonstrated in an unbearable situation forcing subjective attention to focus on the objective
world for self-preservation. A typical housewife has no time to herself let alone time to reflect on inner resolution.
There is a lot to be said about unsuccessful attempts of inner reflection and meditation used to gain the higher worlds. A great number of
transcendental meditators report that they have gotten nothing after years of practicing the art. The very act of sitting in silence is considered a
luxury to those in the battle for life. It is unimaginable to picture a soldier in the heat of battle dodging bullets as his friends drop dead, stop and sit
in a lotus position and begin chanting in order to solve his problem or gain peace. Meditation can be an ineffective tool for those involved with the
seriousness of life; then again if you have time to practice the art in the quiet of nature, it comes as a miracle in times of uncertainty and despair.
Surprisingly, disparate situations allow a quick decoupling of mental baggage, releasing the consciousness into to a higher state of awareness,
even if the aspirant is unaware of the activity. “The Tea Cup” and “the Candle” examples have their place in certain relaxed climates such as those
that practice meditation; however, “The Children” metaphor can be applied to define the transpersonal result in any situation.
Any mother will complain in a loving way that their children are a handful even if they have only one child, their attention is always on the child to
ensure the child’s safety and exposure to wholesome experiences. Seldom does a mother have time to herself. The child’s curiosity is an
uncontrollable drive subjecting them to hazards throughout the day. These kids have to get their hands into everything. The mother’s normal
emotional state is at least, a high anxiety, she never has time for herself or self-pity. Her full time attention is focused on her children which causes
a shift in consciousness.
Her point of view has shifted to the group consciousness of the children and extends into the whole family. The mother is experiencing a
Transpersonal Shift to another world or action and she is usually unaware of the change, the consequences of her actions have a healing affect
on her because she becomes immune to the physiological symptoms of depression, guilt, or vice. She has probably gone further into the other
world than a monk secluded in a monastery.
No longer thinking of herself, she has obtained a higher state of consciousness. She has relived from the limitations of a linear or restricted fixed
point of view termed ‘Linearism’. What words on earth can better describe by contrast the transpersonal experience, the action required to move
over the threshold into the worlds of pure spirit, the ocean of love and mercy.
The Transpersonal experience is a shift of consciousness to the higher planes of knowing. Transcendental is often a word misused to describe this
experience because it gives the impression that the participant is moving form one geographic location to another, say from Texas to Alaska.
A well practice transpersonal can travel for example from the Earth to the Moon to the star Polaris and back to Earth again in the flash of a
moment; however, they must first shift into a new sate of consciousness or the individual’s consciousness perception must give up some
conditional things such as the body to defy the law of physics allowing such freedom. In this case you don’t give up the body, it continues to
function unharmed but the I-ness of the being drops the burden and is free to skip across the universe in a flash. This shift is from one set of laws
to a higher set of laws dictates the actions of lesser laws of operation in a lower plane of existence.
While in the human Body, humans operate under the laws and conditions of the material world which include space and time. There is an
established law that each and every human being must be born into this world which is actually a law of limitation or lesser law. We have thoroughly
discussed those things that are invisible to some and visible to others but common sense is needed if one wants to walk through a wall!
On Earth, a human labors all day just to eat, clothe itself, have a safe place to sleep, bath and not to mention the privacy for bodily excretions. In
contrast, the heavenly world incorporates a finer body or a better term is finer bodies. Each body upward is released from more restrictions or
limiting laws. The requirement for such necessary things as food and clothing diminish on the stairway upward. Tyler seems to exclude the idea of
the eternal soul and the temporary body or space suit when defining animism. To suggest that a human can levitate or walk through walls is absurd
in one set of circumstances but not at impossible in another.
Again, the concept of Animism confuses ritual and religion with the development of the human intellect. Based on hard physical evidence, ritual
and religion developed from culture and tradition which I define as something that is held to be familiar, or believed to be true by groups of people
or the best a people can do. In other words, humans as far as we can determine from archaeological evidence may be technically better off;
however, no evidence shows humans are intellectually brighter than the first day they appeared on planet Earth.
In addition, their higher awareness legislative faculty or “law to one’s self” should never set up self-defeating negative assumptions such as “I am a
bad person.” “I am a failure” or when ill assume “I will die from an incurable disease.” Their inner legislative faculty or law maker takes a position
much like a professional runner in a marathon race to a designated finish line. The racer sees their self crossing the finish line in front days or
weeks before the race. If these people use a negative assumption such as “I will never make it to the finish line” place a bet with what money you
have, on good odds, they will lose!
In contrast, the unscrupulous also use this law for power and greed. This legislative faculty is blind to good and evil and right and wrong and
mathematically operates in proportion to the wish fulfilled which must obey the higher laws of assumption or a better term is ‘visualization.' If the
unscrupulous are able to get their victims to visualize a weakness real or perceived, then demoralization takes over and the victim expects his
demise as a fact.
Further illustration of the transpersonal can be achieved by comparison with today’s common linear reality by way of a transpersonal quiz. Honest
interpersonal skills are required for this extended definition. The following test creates a hypothetical line in the sand between two realities.
1. Have you ever looked at someone on the high end of the social scale and said to yourself, “This person made good choices:”
2. Have your ever looked at someone on the low end of the social scale and said to yourself, “this person made bad choices?”
3. Do you think your position in life is the sum total of your previous choices?
If you answered “yes’ to any of these questions, you are probably living in a Linear Reality. A Linear Reality is neither good nor bad. It is just a
state of consciousness with the perception that life is driven by choice or a series of events; a series of events that represent a linear Reality or a
line form point A to B. Once the mortar of the Linear Reality sets, it continues to harden into the rock hard foundation of an individual personality
and is subject to the law of that personality.
The individual Linear consciousness or Line Person is also “A law unto one’s self” by activating the same
universal law or legislative faculty that applies to the Transpersonals. These Line Person profiles establish laws by assumption as real as gravity
that can and does restrict their own God given liberties. In contrast, the Transpersonal uses the same law in a positive constructive way.
In many cases, ridiculous and outrageous rules and by-laws are set by linear people by the use of linguistic determinants such as stupid, ugly,
clumsy, sickly, and weak which become the marching orders of the day and sometimes for a life-time. Sadly, they become set in their ways,
opinions, and beliefs; closing off the blessing of a dynamic power of limitless possibilities. In other words, how can one achieve success if that
person has established a law against it?
When confronted, a line person usually retreats by folding themselves at right angles forming a perfect square. Worst of all, they exchange their
legislative power to another square or institution and live as a slave. Dominant squares, continually battle for territorial rights. These power hungry
war lords insure self preservation by demoralization. They denounce any individual thoughts, ideas, or dreams as fantasy unless it is their own.
Their own dreams and ambitions always are of a superior inspiration allotted only to the deserving few.
Gazing from a passenger aircraft window, the battle ground is clearly defined as a checkered board of no trespassing zones. The earth is marked
with an intricate grid of linear fence lines, county lines, and highways dividing his from hers, them from those, and mine from yours. Each little
rectangle or box has a signed peace treaty called a “property deed” forgiving the murderous action of the past when the land was originally stolen
from someone else.
The game of boxing in of an opponent by the unscrupulous extends into the very heart of any idea by making such statements the another as ‘It’s
just your imagination” drawing a clear fence line distinction to their superior ideas. Once the victim accepts that his ideas and concepts are artificial
or of no merit: he actually makes his home on the wrong side of the rail road tracks!
The point is, There is no your or my imagination. It is just a lie to defeat someone’s dream and ambitions. The world of the imagination sometimes
called the astral world is the womb of our universe; without it we cannot exist. Think about this when the next time your away from the lights of any
given city and look up at the starry night of endless worlds and possibilities. This open frontier belongs to everyone and to stake a claim or
kingdom is nearly impossible. The only way the unscrupulous can gain ground in the astral world is to belittle their opponents into thinking they are
worthless and undeserving; thereby, using the victims to set up their own laws of limitations.
Consequently, The victim becomes their own jail keeper and prosecuting attorney, keeping themselves in check while the so called superiors
advance, claiming more territorial rights until a monopoly of space collapses upon itself by a spark of ontological reasoning and God given civil
rights- “To everything there is a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1).”
Again, critical thinking never did me much good in matters of the soul so I return to Mary’s and my journal of metaphysical parables which are
simply stories that may reveal a paradox or give meaning to ideologies beyond the realm of human reasoning such as “A Story of Soul and a Way
to See It. If there is something called soul, there must be a way to see it, even if they dwell in the peripheral blind spot of social invisibility. Could it
be that there is an everyday ordinary common god, out-side of peripheral perception as close as the invisible nose on your invisible face, working
miracles in our lives?
